Understanding the cost of home care
Money questions deserve straight answers. Here's how home care pricing actually works, what affects it, and the ways Detroit families pay for it.
How pricing works
Non-medical home care is typically billed by the hour. Your total cost depends on three things: how many hours of care you need each week, the level of care (companionship costs differ from hands-on personal care or memory care), and the schedule model — hourly visits, overnight shifts, or live-in arrangements each price differently.
We publish exact rates at your free in-home assessment, in writing, with no obligation. Why not on this page? Because an honest number requires understanding your situation first — and because you deserve a quote that won't change after we meet.
An honest note about Medicare: traditional Medicare generally does not cover non-medical home care. Any agency that implies otherwise is doing you a disservice. The options below are the real ways families pay.
Ways families pay
Private pay
The most common option: families pay directly by the hour, with rates depending on the level and amount of care. You'll get exact numbers, in writing, at your free assessment.
Long-term-care insurance
If your loved one holds a long-term-care policy, non-medical home care is often a covered benefit. We can provide the documentation your insurer needs and help you understand the claim process.
Veterans programs
Eligible wartime veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for the VA's Aid & Attendance pension benefit, which can help pay for home care. Eligibility depends on service history, income, and care needs — verify directly with the VA at va.gov, and we'll point you to the right starting places.
Michigan Medicaid waivers (MI Choice)
Michigan's MI Choice waiver can cover in-home services for eligible seniors and adults with disabilities as an alternative to nursing home care. Eligibility is income- and needs-based — families should verify with Michigan's MI Choice program. TODO_OWNER: confirm whether Imperial is a Medicaid-enrolled provider before publishing any acceptance claim.

Traditional Medicare generally does not cover non-medical (custodial) home care like ours. We'd rather tell you that plainly than let you find out later. Long-term-care insurance, VA benefits, Michigan Medicaid waiver programs, and private pay are the common ways families cover care.
